Why a flight from Zurich means a trip to the mountains
The tandem flights compared on this site all start in the mountains, and the ones within reach of Zurich are in the Bernese Oberland and around Lake Lucerne. The bundled answer is a day trip: Keytours runs a 10-hour day from Zurich to Interlaken that includes the bus, the paragliding and free time in town.
The alternative is to travel on your own and book a flight on arrival. Lauterbrunnen Tourism says direct trains run every two hours from Zurich Airport to Interlaken Ost, with other connections via Bern, and gives the journey as about 3 hours.1 Interlaken Tourism adds that there are trains every half hour to and from Bern, Zürich, Geneva and Basel.3
Which works better depends on your pass, your budget and how much control you want over the day. Paragliding from Zurich, Switzerland, is entirely possible in a day, but it is a long one either way, and the weather has the final word on whether the flight part happens.

The Keytours day: what the 10 hours hold
The Zurich day trip starts at the Swisstours bus and lasts 10 hours. In Interlaken you are dropped at the partner office, and a driver takes you and your pilot up the mountain in the Paragliding-Interlaken van, a drive of 20 minutes that includes the safety talk and the take-off and landing briefing, followed by a walk of 3 minutes to the take-off.
After the flight you have free time in Interlaken before the bus back. The listing includes bus transport, the paragliding, the free time and a driver guide; food and drinks are not included. It starts from $394 and is rated 4.73 from 83 reviews; its sub-scores are guide 4.8, transportation 4.7 and value for money 4.6. Use that free time for the lakefront or a short walk; you will have been up and down a mountain already.
Read the small print before booking. The trip is not suitable for children under 7, people afraid of heights, people with altitude sickness or people over 100 kg, and the provider asks you to email your booking reference with each passenger's height and weight. If booked last-minute, the paragliding may not be possible.

Doing it yourself by train
With a rail pass, the do-it-yourself route often makes more sense. Take a train to Interlaken Ost, walk to the Höhematte, and fly with one of the Interlaken operators. Skywings, the most reviewed flight compared on this site, starts from $223 and takes 1.5 hours from meeting to landing.
Its van takes 20 minutes to the take-off at Beatenberg, followed by a 5-minute walk, and the flight lands on the Höhematte in the middle of town. The summer meeting point is the Skywings desk in front of Restaurant Schuh, Höheweg 56. AlpinAir and Paragliding Interlaken also meet in the town center.
Book the flight for the middle of your day, not the first hour after arrival. A train delay or a long queue for coffee should not cost you the slot. And keep free cancellation on the booking, which every Interlaken listing here offers up to 24 hours before. If the pilot postpones, you still have the rest of the afternoon to try again or to enjoy Interlaken.

Mürren from Zurich in one day
Flying from Mürren on a day trip from Zurich is possible but tight. Jungfrau Region Tourism gives 53 minutes from Interlaken Ost to Mürren by public transport, on top of the train from Zurich.2 The Airtime flight itself takes 1 hour, starting at the Schilthornbahn station in Mürren.
The reward for the extra travel is the landscape. The flight crosses the Lauterbrunnen valley, where Lauterbrunnen Tourism counts 72 waterfalls, and lands in Stechelberg on the valley floor.4 It starts from $209, less than the bundled day from Zurich, though you pay your own trains.
If you can, stay one night in Lauterbrunnen, Wengen or Mürren instead. You fly in the morning without an early train, keep the next day as a weather backup, and see the valley at dusk, when the day visitors have gone home and the waterfalls are loud in the quiet.
Closer to Zurich: flights around Lake Lucerne
If the Bernese Oberland is too far, Central Switzerland has its own flights. CAP Paragliding meets in front of Lucerne's main station or at Stans station, with the take-off reached by the Niederbauen cableway; that cable car costs about CHF 10 to 15 extra. The flight starts from $267 for a private group and lasts 2.5 hours in all.
Switzerland Paragliding flies from the Niederbauen cableway too, over Canton Nidwalden, and sends the meeting point the day before, depending on the weather. Lucerne Tourism lists SkyGlide tandem flights in Central Switzerland from CHF 185 per person, bookable all year.56
These flights give lake views rather than cliff walls, and they suit a day based in Lucerne with an evening back in Zurich. For a first flight with a short journey, they are a sensible alternative to the long road to Interlaken.
Paragliding from Geneva
For paragliding from Geneva the same company runs a longer bundle. The trip leaves Geneva bus station at Place Dorcière 5 and lasts 13 hours, with bus transport, instructor and safety briefings, paragliding for 10 to 20 minutes and free time in Interlaken. It starts from $461 and has 2 reviews so far, both at 5.00.
The weather clause matters most here. The listing says the paragliding depends on the weather and may be cancelled after you leave Geneva, and that only the paragliding part is then refunded. That means a long bus day without the flight is a real possibility.
Children under 6 and people over 100 kg cannot join, and a guide and lunch are not included. Compare it with a train to Interlaken and a flight booked there, which Interlaken Tourism's half-hourly connections to Geneva make practical.3 On a pass, the train is the more flexible choice, and it leaves you free to stay overnight if the weather turns.
Bundle or do it yourself?
Choose the bundle if you have no rail pass, dislike planning connections, and want the transport, the briefing and the flight handled for you. The Zurich day starts from $394 and covers the bus, the flight and a driver guide.
Choose the train if you hold a pass, want to pick your own operator or flight time, or would rather fly from Mürren. A flight in Interlaken starts from $223, and one from Mürren from $209.
Either way, put the flight early in your trip if you can, and keep a second chance in reserve. A good day trip is one where the pilot says yes. Pack warm layers, closed-toe shoes and sunglasses whichever option you pick, and carry a snack: food and drinks are not part of the bundled day.
