Mürren has no road, and your flight starts at its cable car station. Here is how to get to Mürren on flight day: the train via Grütschalp, the cable car from Stechelberg, the fares, the passes and where to leave a car.

Quick answer
Mürren is car-free, and the Schilthornbahn describes it as reached by cableway, with a large car park at the valley station in Stechelberg.6 Jungfrau Region Tourism puts it simply: if you are traveling by car, leave it in Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg and use public transport.5
There are two ways up. Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Mürren, the BLM, runs a cableway from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp and a railway from Grütschalp to Mürren.7 The Schilthornbahn runs the cable car from Stechelberg, further up the valley, to Mürren.8
For a flight with Airtime the route matters for one reason: where you arrive. Airtime meets its guests just outside the Schilthornbahn station in Mürren, and its listing describes the flag at Intersport, to the left as you leave the cable car station.9 Arriving by the BLM train means a walk through the village to that point. Arriving by cable car from Stechelberg puts you right at the door, which is the simpler choice when you are short of time.

If you are coming from Interlaken, start at Interlaken Ost. Jungfrau Region Tourism gives the blue and yellow Berner Oberland Bahn 20 minutes to Lauterbrunnen and tells you to board the front of the train, which splits at Zweilütschinen.10 Lauterbrunnen Tourism gives the same trip as 24 minutes, from platform 2A.13
At Lauterbrunnen station the BLM cableway climbs to Grütschalp: its cabin carries 135 people and climbs 686 meters in 4 minutes.14 At Grütschalp you change to a small train that runs four kilometres to Mürren in 11 minutes, along a balcony with views across the valley.15 Jungfrau Region Tourism gives the whole trip from Lauterbrunnen as 20 minutes.2
The BLM cableway was extensively modernised in 2026 and received a new operating license.16 The train stops at Winteregg on the way, a family excursion spot, before reaching Mürren's railway station.17 From there, walk through Mürren to the Schilthornbahn station to find the Airtime flag.

At Lauterbrunnen station, take the gondola to Grütschalp. Here, change to a small train which will take you to Mürren. The journey from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren takes 20 minutes.
The second route continues up the valley floor. In Lauterbrunnen you take the bus towards Stechelberg, get off at the Schilthornbahn station and ride the cable car to Mürren; Jungfrau Region Tourism gives this journey 30 minutes.3 The Schilthornbahn describes the same chain: change at Interlaken Ost for Lauterbrunnen, then a PostBus to its valley station in Stechelberg.20
The cable car itself is a sight. The Schilthornbahn calls it the steepest aerial cableway in the world, with a maximum gradient of 159.4% from Stechelberg at 866 m to Mürren at 1,641 m.821 The ride takes about 4 minutes and climbs 775 meters, and the cable car runs every 30 minutes.1112 It opened to the public on 14 December 2024.22
This route has a practical advantage on flight day: it starts where your flight ends. The Airtime flight lands at the paragliding field in Stechelberg, next to the Schilthornbahn station. Leave a car or a bag at the valley station, ride up, fly down, and you are back beside your things. On a busy summer morning that short loop is also a relaxed way to organize the day.

The Stechelberg to Mürren cable car cost depends on the pass in your pocket. Until 12 December 2026 the Schilthornbahn charges adults CHF 11.80 one way and CHF 23.60 return, half with the Swiss Half Fare Card, and nothing with the GA travelcard or a Swiss Travel Pass.4 Children ride free up to their 6th birthday.31
For a flight you only need the ticket up. Airtime says that without a travel pass the one-way journey costs about 12 CHF, and that you only need one way because the flight brings you back down.32 The Airtime listing marks the journey to its meeting point as not included, free with the SwissPass and discounted with other travel passes.
If you also want the summit, the Schilthorn return from Mürren costs CHF 91.40 for adults, or CHF 45.70 with the GA travelcard or a Swiss Travel Pass.33 The cable car ride to the Schilthorn summit takes 24 minutes, and the Thrill Walk at Birg is free to enter.3435
Stechelberg can be reached by road all year, via the Wilderswil and Interlaken motorway exit and Lauterbrunnen.12 Jungfrau Region Tourism gives the drive from Interlaken as 20 to 30 minutes to Lauterbrunnen and 25 to 35 minutes to Stechelberg, depending on the season.18
Park at the valley station in Stechelberg, where the Schilthornbahn has a large car park, and ride the cable car up.6 The flight lands next to that station, and your car is waiting when you unclip. Parking in Lauterbrunnen works as well if you prefer the train via Grütschalp, but then you need the bus or a walk back after landing.
The valley floor between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg is pleasant on foot. Lauterbrunnen Tourism describes the walk past the waterfalls as easy, fairly flat and suitable for pushchairs.36 On a fine afternoon after the flight it is a gentle way to come back down to earth. If friends are not flying, they can take this walk while you are in the air and meet you on the landing field.
From Interlaken Ost station you can reach Mürren in 53 minutes, according to Jungfrau Region Tourism.1 Interlaken itself has train connections every half hour to and from Bern, Zürich, Geneva and Basel.37
From Zurich Airport, Lauterbrunnen Tourism says direct trains run every two hours to Interlaken Ost, with other connections via Bern, and gives a journey time of about 3 hours.38 Add the hour to Mürren and you are looking at a long day for a flight; staying a night in the valley gives you a calmer start and a backup morning.
Pass holders travel cheaply all the way. The Swiss Travel Pass covers the Stechelberg cable car, as the Schilthornbahn's fare table shows.4 Without a pass, compare a regional ticket with the cost of a day trip from Zurich that bundles transport and a flight in Interlaken. Whichever ticket you choose, keep it handy on the way up, and remember that the ride back down is the flight itself.
Check the lifts before you travel. The Schilthornbahn closes its Stechelberg-Gimmelwald-Mürren cableway for maintenance from 19 to 30 October 2026, from 26 April to 7 May 2027 and on 28 and 29 October 2027.19 During those periods a replacement shuttle bus runs via Mürren between 8 am and 6 pm, with limited seats and possible waiting.39
Gimmelwald, the car-free village at 1,367 m, is the intermediate station of that cableway.2526 On those dates the BLM route via Grütschalp is the other way up; check its own timetable too, as it also pauses for maintenance, and allow extra time.
On the day, plan to reach the Airtime flag a little before your slot. Airtime flights are booked at fixed times, and the whole experience takes one to two hours according to Jungfrau Region Tourism.4041 A missed connection in Lauterbrunnen is an easy way to arrive late; leave a margin for the change.
