Before the flight: finding the flag
The day starts at the Schilthornbahn station in Mürren. Airtime's listing tells you to leave the cable car station, look left and find the Airtime flag at Intersport, the ski rental shop. On its own site Airtime describes the meeting point as just outside the station.1 If you come up from Stechelberg, the Schilthornbahn gives the ride as about 4 minutes on what it calls the steepest aerial cableway in the world.23
Arrive a little early, meet your pilot and hand over anything you cannot fly with. The listing does not allow cellphones, selfie sticks, luggage or large bags on the flight, and it asks for closed-toe shoes: no sandals, flip-flops or bare feet.
Groups are small, limited to 6 people, and the instructors speak English, German, Spanish and French. This is the moment to mention nerves, a bad knee or anything else your pilot should know. A good pilot adjusts the plan to the person in front of them.

The walk up and the briefing
From the meeting point it is 15 minutes on foot to the take-off field, and the listing says no extra ticket is needed for that stretch. Airtime describes the fitness level as moderate: an uphill walk of 10 minutes, then a few running steps to take off.4 The path climbs above the chalets at the edge of the village, and the view opens up across the valley as you go.
At the field the wings lie spread on the grass in bright colors, lines laid out behind them. Your pilot clips you into the harness and the helmet, which the listing includes along with boots or a jacket when they are needed. Then comes the briefing, which is short and practical.
A tandem briefing covers how to run at take-off, when to sit back into the harness and how to land. Listen carefully, ask again if anything is unclear, and keep your hands where the pilot tells you. The briefing is the most important part of the day for your safety, and a good pilot repeats it until you are sure.

Fitness: Moderate. Must be able to hike uphill for 10 minutes to the take off field, then run a few steps to take off
Take-off: a few steps and the ground drops away
Take-off is quicker than most passengers expect. The pilot checks the wind, pulls the wing up over your heads, and you run a few steps down the slope together, as Airtime describes it.4 Somewhere in those steps the harness tightens, your feet keep moving, and then they are moving through air.
The first seconds are the strongest. The meadow falls away below, the village shrinks behind you, and the valley opens in front: a deep green floor with sheer walls on both sides. Once you are clear, the pilot will tell you to sit back into the harness, and the noise of your own breathing is replaced by wind.
If you are nervous, remember the order of things. The tense part is the short run on the grass, and once you are sitting back in the harness the flight itself can be surprisingly calm. The hard part lasts a few seconds, and the reward lasts many minutes.

Paragliding Into The Lauterbrunnen Valley (with Airtime)
Until you tap play, the video stays unloaded.
Up to 20 minutes over the valley
The listing gives the time over the Lauterbrunnen valley as up to 20 minutes, and Airtime's own site gives 12 to 20 minutes for this classic flight.22 The listing names the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in view, along with the cliffs and waterfalls of the valley.
Paragliding in the Lauterbrunnen valley means flying beside rock rather than over it. Lauterbrunnen Tourism counts 72 waterfalls plunging down the rock faces, and gives the Staubbach Falls a free fall of around 297 meters.97 The Mürrenbach falls cascade down the 417 m high Mürrenfluh during snowmelt and heavy rain.6
The flight can be gentle or more lively, and it is worth telling your pilot which you prefer. Airtime explains that mornings bring still, smooth air, while afternoon thermals allow longer flights.10 Ask for what you want at the briefing, not halfway down.
Landing in Stechelberg
The descent ends at the paragliding landing field in Stechelberg, on the valley floor next to the Stechelberg station of the Schilthornbahn. Airtime calls this field the best place for friends and family to watch.13 The Schilthornbahn puts Stechelberg at 866 m and Mürren at 1,641 m, the ends of its cable car.5
Landing is usually a few running steps or a gentle slide onto the grass, and your pilot will tell you which one to expect. Keep your legs down and ready, follow the instruction, and let the pilot handle the wing. The BFU notes that air sport accidents usually happen at take-off and landing rather than in the air, and the briefing spends its time on exactly those moments.23
Once you are down, you unclip and see your photos. Photos and videos of the flight are not included in the price and cost an extra 40 CHF, and Airtime says you can check them before deciding.12 Payment is by cash or card.12
When the wind decides
Every timetable in paragliding is provisional. Jungfrau Region Tourism's listing for Airtime says tandem flights from Mürren are possible in almost all weather conditions thanks to the geography, except when it rains.24 Airtime flights are booked at fixed times, and the same listing says to allow one to two hours for the whole experience.2526
If the pilot cannot fly, the money question is settled in your favor. Airtime says that if it cannot fly because of the weather you do not pay, and that you get a full refund if the flight cannot be moved to another time.27 With the GetYourGuide booking, you can still back out at no cost until 24 hours ahead of take-off.
The practical answer is to book early in your stay. A flight on your first full day in the valley leaves room for a second attempt if clouds or wind close the morning, and the cable car up from Stechelberg is quick enough to make a retry easy. Keep the rest of that day loose, with a walk or a village lunch that can move if the flight does.
After the flight: back to Lauterbrunnen
Transport after landing is not part of the booking. The listing points to a bus back to Lauterbrunnen or the walk along the waterfalls. Lauterbrunnen Tourism describes the walk from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg as easy, fairly flat and suitable for pushchairs.28
The Trümmelbach Falls lie on that valley road. The Schilthornbahn describes 10 glacier waterfalls inside the mountain, draining the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau at up to 20,000 liters per second, and suggests a stopover of about 1 hour.2930 They are open from the beginning of April to the beginning of November, with adult tickets from CHF 18.00.3132
If you left a bag or friends in Mürren, the cable car from Stechelberg takes you back up. With the GA travelcard or a Swiss Travel Pass that ride costs nothing; otherwise it is CHF 11.80 one way for adults.33 You can also simply sit on the grass a while longer and watch the next pairs come in.
