Two very different flights in the same region
Interlaken and Mürren sit in the same corner of the Bernese Oberland, yet the flights from each feel like different sports. In Interlaken a bus or van carries you up to a meadow at Beatenberg, and AlpinAir describes the ride to its take-off at Amisbühl as about 20 minutes, with a flight of 10-20 minutes and a landing in the Höhematte park in the center of town.1 The landing is in the middle of the resort, among the hotels.
In Mürren the start is a field above a car-free village, which Mürren Tourism puts at 1,638 m.3 The Airtime flight crosses the Lauterbrunnen valley, where Lauterbrunnen Tourism counts 72 waterfalls plunging down the rock faces, and lands in Stechelberg on the valley floor.4
The question is not which is better in general. It is what you want to see from the air, how much time you have, how you are traveling, and how much you weigh. Interlaken flights are the easier fit for a short stay in town; Mürren asks for a little more travel and gives a very particular landscape in return. Reading the listings side by side makes the difference clear within a few minutes.

What you see from each take-off
From Beatenberg you fly over a town set on the flat ground between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, with the snow peaks of the Jungfrau region to the south. Switzerland Tourism even suggests a picnic on the Höhematte to watch the paragliders come in with the Jungfrau massif behind them.5 The listings describe the descent as a long, open glide towards the town; Paragliding Interlaken gives it as a flight 800 m above Interlaken.
From Mürren the scenery is vertical. You launch above the rim of a U-shaped valley and fly past rock walls; Lauterbrunnen Tourism says the Mürrenbach falls cascade down the 417 m high Mürrenfluh during snowmelt and heavy rain.6 The Airtime listing names the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau among the views, along with the cliffs and waterfalls of the valley.
If lakes, a wide horizon and a landing in a busy park appeal to you, Interlaken is the natural pick. If you want to look straight down at waterfalls and feel the scale of the valley walls beside you, Mürren is the one to choose. Both give a close view of the high peaks on a clear day.

For tandem paragliding in Interlaken the most reviewed listing is Skywings, rated 4.94 from 2,580 reviews. Its van takes 20 minutes, a 5-minute walk follows, and you take off at Beatenberg and land on the Höhematte; in summer you meet at the Skywings desk in front of Restaurant Schuh, Höheweg 56.

Interlaken Tourism adds that this operator flies mornings from the Niederhorn and evenings from the Schynige Platte.8

The Mürren alternative in detail
The Airtime flight meets at Intersport by the Schilthornbahn station in Mürren, walks 15 minutes to the take-off field, and stays up to 20 minutes over the Lauterbrunnen valley before landing in Stechelberg. The whole activity is listed at 1 hour, in groups of up to 6.
A second Mürren listing starts higher. Switzerland Paragliding takes a cable car up to Birg in summer or Schilgrat in winter, flies 20 to 25 minutes past Gimmelwald and the Trümmelbach Falls, and also lands in Stechelberg. It suits heavier passengers, with a range of 30 to 115 kg.
What both Mürren flights share is the descent into the valley rather than onto a town. Airtime calls the Stechelberg landing field, next to the Schilthornbahn station, the best place for friends and family to watch.9 From there you can return to Lauterbrunnen by bus or on foot past the waterfalls, as the Airtime listing notes.
Interlaken paragliding cost against Mürren
The Interlaken paragliding cost starts from $223 with Skywings, $223 with AlpinAir and $235 with Paragliding Interlaken. Skywings and Paragliding Interlaken include the ride to the take-off, AlpinAir offers free transfers if you are close to its take-off area, and photos are sold separately, for 40 CHF at AlpinAir and at Paragliding Interlaken.
In Mürren the Airtime flight starts from $209, with photos and videos at an extra 40 CHF. You must reach Mürren yourself: the Schilthornbahn charges CHF 11.80 one way from Stechelberg, free with a Swiss Travel Pass.7
For a traveler with a pass the totals end up close. Without a pass, Interlaken saves the ride up the valley, while Mürren still comes out a little cheaper on the booking itself. Spend the difference on whichever view you came for.
Weight, age and timing rules
Interlaken operators are strict about weight. Skywings flies up to 80 kg on its earliest and latest slots, where the maximum age is 60, and up to 90 kg on the midday slots; children under 30 kg must fly before 11:00. AlpinAir sets 90 kg and a minimum age of five with the parents' consent.10 Paragliding Interlaken accepts up to 100 kg on most summer slots and from 25 kg upwards.
In Mürren the Airtime listing excludes people over 91 kg and children under 5. Airtime itself says it can often fly guests up to 95 kg, and up to 100 kg in the right summer conditions.11 The Birg flight accepts 30 to 115 kg, with passengers over 90 kg limited to 11:20, 13:20 and 15:20.
Check the time slot as carefully as the price. A heavier passenger or a child may be offered only certain times, and a missed rule can mean no flight and no refund on some listings. Put your exact weight in the booking notes and confirm it with the operator before the day.
Which one to book
Book in Interlaken if you are based in town, short on time or traveling without a car or rail pass. The meeting points are in the center, the flights land a short walk from the hotels, and Interlaken Tourism notes trains every half hour to and from Bern, Zürich, Geneva and Basel.12
Book in Mürren if the Lauterbrunnen valley is the reason you came to Switzerland. From Interlaken Ost you can reach Mürren in 53 minutes, and a flight there can be paired with a morning in the village or on the Schilthorn.2 The panorama flight is the choice for passengers too heavy for the other listings.
Whichever you pick, both depend on the wind. Reserve early, keep free cancellation, and leave a second day in your plans in case the pilot postpones. The flight that actually happens beats the perfect one that the weather cancels.

The meadow above Mürren is waiting.
