Comparison · Mürren flights
Both tandem flights from Mürren finish on the same field in Stechelberg, yet they start in different places and last different lengths. Here is how Airtime paragliding Mürren compares with the higher start at Birg.

The short version
Mürren sits on a sunny shelf high above the Lauterbrunnen valley, and the Schilthornbahn describes it as car-free and reached by cableway.1 Mürren Tourism puts the village at 1,638 m.2 From that ledge the valley floor looks almost close enough to step onto, which is exactly why the village has become a launch point for tandem flights. On GetYourGuide you can book two of them, and on paper they look alike until you read the details line by line.
The first is run by Airtime Paragliding, which its listing calls Mürren's local paragliding team, and it is the flight this site recommends. The second is the panorama flight of Switzerland Paragliding. Both land on the paragliding field in Stechelberg, at the bottom of the valley, which is the point where the two products stop being different.
Everything before that landing differs: where you meet, how you reach the take-off, how high you start, how long you stay up and what the price includes. Neither choice is wrong. The useful question is which set of details fits your day, your weight, your budget and your nerves, and the sections below take those details one at a time. Read them with your own trip in mind, not the photos on the listings, which all look spectacular.
Booking path
Before you book
Airtime's listing stops at 91 kg; the Birg listing goes to 115 kg.

Meeting
Airtime meets just outside the Schilthornbahn station in Mürren.4
Landing
Both flights end at the paragliding field on the valley floor.
Airtime's guests meet at Intersport by the Schilthornbahn station in Mürren: step out of the cable car station, look left and find the Airtime flag. From there it is 15 minutes on foot to the take-off field, where your pilot gives the briefing, and no extra ticket is needed for that stretch. The listing gives the flight over the Lauterbrunnen valley as up to 20 minutes, with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in view.
The whole activity is listed at 1 hour, groups are limited to 6 people, and the instructors speak English, German, Spanish and French. On its own website Airtime calls this classic flight The Wall and gives 12 to 20 minutes in the air.5 The team says it began in Lauterbrunnen in 2012.6
The appeal of this version is its simplicity. You do not climb higher by cable car, the walk is short, and the take-off is close enough to the village that you can watch other pairs launch while you wait your turn. The flight then follows the line of the valley wall, with the waterfalls below and the high peaks across the gap, before the descent towards Stechelberg.

It starts from $209, the lower of the two Mürren listings.
It takes off at Birg in summer, listed at 2,600 m.
Airtime's listing stops at 91 kg; the panorama listing accepts up to 115 kg, at fixed times above 90 kg.
The listing gives 1 hour in total, with a short walk to the take-off.
Groups are limited to 6, against 9 on the panorama listing.
The Wall is our classic flight, offering 12 to 20 minutes of pure airborne magic from Mürren.
The Switzerland Paragliding pilot meets you in the ticket area of the Mürren gondola station. The listing then adds a cable car ride of 10 minutes and a walk of 10 minutes, with the take-off at Birg, 2,600 m, in the summer season or at Schilgrat, 2,100 m, in the winter season. The operator's own website gives the same places as 2700 m and 2200 m, and the Schilthornbahn lists Birg at 2,677 m.89
The flight passes Gimmelwald, Mürren and the Trümmelbach Falls before landing in Stechelberg, and the listing gives a flying time of 20 to 25 minutes inside a total of about 2 hours. Groups are limited to 9, the instructors speak Spanish, English, Polish and German, and the reviews score it 4.90 from 194 ratings.
A higher start means more ground below you and a longer descent through very different scenery, from rock and snow at the top to pasture and forest lower down. The trade-off is time and logistics: the cable car leg adds a step to the morning, and the listing makes clear that the ride up to the take-off is not covered by the booking price.

The Airtime booking starts from $209 and includes the tandem flight, a licensed tandem pilot, a helmet, boots or a jacket when they are needed, space for small items and insurance. It does not include getting to the meeting point in Mürren, the transport after landing, tips, or photos and videos of the flight, which cost an extra 40 CHF.
The panorama booking starts from $235 and covers the pilot, the tandem gear, third-party and accident insurances, the take-off and landing briefing and the flight itself. It leaves out the ride up to the take-off and the trip to the meeting point; photos come on demand.
Add the extras before you compare. With Airtime the main add-on is the footage, and Airtime's site says you can look at the photos after the flight and decide then.10 With the panorama flight the cable car leg is part of the real cost of the day. If you travel on a Swiss rail pass, check what it covers on the Schilthornbahn before you budget.
The Airtime listing marks the flight as not suitable for people over 91 kg, children under 5, pregnant women or people with mobility impairments. Airtime's own answers add some nuance: the usual limit is 90 kg, taller or larger-built guests can often fly up to 95 kg, and in the right summer conditions up to 100 kg.11 It suggests a minimum age of 5 and has no upper age limit.12
The panorama listing accepts passengers from 30 kg to 115 kg, excluding pregnant women, and it adds a timing rule: people over 90 kg can only fly at 11:20, 13:20 or 15:20, with no refund if that rule is ignored. The operator's website sets the minimum age at 6 and asks that passengers can run 10-15 m.13
Fitness matters a little on both. Airtime describes it as moderate: an uphill walk of 10 minutes to the take-off field and then a few running steps.14 The panorama listing calls its take-off easy for anyone who can run 10 meters. If you are close to a limit, contact the operator via your booking well ahead rather than hoping for flexibility on the meadow.
How long does paragliding last over the valley? The honest answer depends on the air. Jungfrau Region Tourism's listing for Airtime says to allow one to two hours for the whole experience, of which 15 to 40 minutes is flight time.15 Airtime also sells a Double Airtime of 30 to 40 minutes on its own site, which depends on thermals and is booked as a Wall flight after 11:00 and extended on the day for the difference in price.716
Airtime explains that mornings in Mürren bring still, smooth air, while the afternoon sun warms the slopes and the thermals allow longer flights.17 That is worth knowing if you are nervous: a calm early flight and a lively afternoon one can feel quite different, even from the same field. Ask your pilot which kind of air the day has brought when you meet.
Pick the Airtime flight if you want the lower price, the shortest logistics, a meeting point you can walk to from the station and a group of no more than 6. Pick the panorama flight if a higher start and a longer listed flying time matter more than the extra cable car leg, or if you weigh more than the Airtime listing allows. Either way, you end the day on the same grass in Stechelberg.
