More · the flight
The flight begins in Mürren, a car-free village that the Schilthornbahn says is reached by cableway. You meet your Airtime pilot at Intersport, just to the left as you leave the Schilthornbahn station, and walk 15 minutes up to the take-off field, where the briefing happens; no extra ticket is needed for that walk.
Then you run a few steps down the slope with your pilot and the ground drops away. The listing gives up to 20 minutes over the Lauterbrunnen valley, with the cliffs and waterfalls below and the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in view. Airtime's own site gives 12 to 20 minutes in the air for this classic flight.
You land on the paragliding field in Stechelberg, on the valley floor, next to the Stechelberg station of the Schilthornbahn. The whole activity is listed at 1 hour, and a bus runs back to Lauterbrunnen if you do not want to walk along the waterfalls.
Why this flight

More · why mürren
The Lauterbrunnen valley is a deep trough with walls that drop straight to a flat green floor. Lauterbrunnen Tourism counts 72 waterfalls plunging down the rock faces, and gives the Staubbach Falls a free fall of around 297 metres. From the ground you crane your neck; from a paraglider you see the whole design at once.
Mürren sits on a ledge high on the western wall. Mürren Tourism gives the village altitude as 1,638 m, and the Schilthornbahn puts its valley station in Stechelberg at 866 m. That height between ledge and floor is the space your flight fills.
The valley is also part of a protected landscape. Lauterbrunnen Tourism says it lies at the heart of the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed since December 2001. Paragliding in Lauterbrunnen's valley is a rare chance to see a World Heritage landscape without a crowd around you.

My pilot knew the area well and taught me about it while we flew. I felt safe the whole time. You walk up a steep little hill for a few minutes, get set up, and then you are off.”

We were both quite nervous, but the team put us at ease straight away and everything ran smoothly. The view was beyond words, and the paid photos and videos made a lovely keepsake.”

We came with our children and everyone was a bit nervous. The guides turned it into an unforgettable experience, and it ended up as the whole family's favorite activity of the trip.”

A beautiful flight, with waterfalls and rainbows below us. I had flown in Interlaken before, and this valley made that flight feel tame. Great crew, and quick replies to our messages.”

They shaped the flight around each of us: my wife wanted something mellow and got a gentle ride, while the kids wanted it wild and had a blast. Stunning scenery throughout.”

Both of us are scared of heights, yet that stopped mattering almost at once. Our pilots were attentive and professional and knew how to handle nerves; we were too busy staring at the scenery.”
More · what reviewers say
Reviewers return again and again to the pilots. Guests describe guides who calmed their nerves before take-off, who checked during the flight that they were enjoying it, and who adjusted the ride to each person: gentle for one, playful for another.
The view comes next. One traveler wrote about seeing waterfalls and rainbows from the air, and another, who had flown in Interlaken before, found this valley more striking. Several mention that the pilot explained the area, its geography and its legends, while they were up in the air.
The photos and videos also come up often, both as a keepsake worth buying and, in one review, as an extra cost the traveler wished were included. One family flew together with their children and called it their favorite activity of the whole trip.

Jungfrau Region Tourism's listing for Airtime says you can fly in Mürren all year round, and that no previous experience is needed. Each season looks different: green walls and full waterfalls in early summer, gold light in autumn, and snow on the peaks and the meadow in winter.
Summer days are long. Interlaken, the nearest MeteoSwiss valley station, has 15.8 hrs of daylight in mid-June and 8.6 hrs in mid-December. Staubbach Falls is at its strongest in spring and early summer, fed by meltwater.
Winter brings the ski crowd to the village. Mürren Tourism schedules the Mürren-Schilthorn ski season from 21 November 2026 to 2 May 2027, and the Schilthornbahn calls the village the cradle of Alpine skiing. A winter flight pairs well with a day on the pistes.

More · wind and cloud
Jungfrau Region Tourism's listing for Airtime says tandem flights from Mürren are possible in almost all weather conditions thanks to the geography, except when it rains. Wind and storms still decide some days. MeteoSwiss says thunderstorms mainly occur in summer, and the foehn brings dry downdraughts that often reach gale force.
The money side is reassuring. Airtime says that if it cannot fly because of the weather you pay nothing, and that you get a full refund if the flight cannot be rescheduled. The booking also allows free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and you can reserve now and pay later.
Plan the flight early in your stay. If the first morning is grey or windy, a second chance later in your stay is easy to arrange from anywhere in the valley, and the cable car up from Stechelberg takes about 4 minutes.
Your turn
Pick a time, walk up from the cable car and cancel free up to 24 hours before.
More · longer flights
The time of day changes the flight. Airtime explains that mornings in Mürren bring still, smooth air, while the sun warming the mountainsides forms thermals that allow longer flights. If you are nervous, ask for the first; if you want time in the sky, aim for the second.
On its own site Airtime also offers a Double Airtime of 30 to 40 minutes in the air. It depends on thermals: you book a classic flight after 11:00 and, if conditions allow on the day, extend it and pay the difference.
Tell your pilot at the briefing what kind of flight you want. A gentle glide along the cliffs and a livelier descent are both possible on the right day, and the pilot will match the plan to the air and to you.

More · photos and video
Photos and videos of the flight are not included in the booking and cost an extra 40 CHF. Airtime says there is no need to pre-book: you see them after the flight and decide, paying by cash or card.
Your own phone stays on the ground. The listing does not allow cellphones or selfie sticks, and it also rules out luggage, large bags and pets. It does include space to carry small items.
That rule is a gift in disguise. Without a screen in your hand you actually look at the valley, and the pilot handles the camera. Friends on the ground can watch the landing: Airtime calls the Stechelberg field the best place for friends and family to watch.
The ride up
The cable car up to Mürren climbs at a gradient of up to 159.4%.
The Schilthornbahn calls it a world record for aerial cable cars and the steepest aerial cableway in the world; it climbs 775 m from Stechelberg in about 4 minutes.
More · what to wear
Airtime asks guests to dress as for a hike: layered clothing, a light jacket and good closed-toe shoes, and no flip-flops; the pilot has a windbreaker if you need one. On the listing's packing list: warm clothes suited to the day's weather, sunglasses and shoes that cover your toes.
The booking includes a helmet, and boots or a jacket when they are needed. Sandals, flip-flops and bare feet are not allowed, as your feet do real work at take-off and landing.
Even on a warm day the take-off and the air above the valley feel cooler than the town. Bring a thin warm layer, put on sun cream before you leave the village, and choose sunglasses that sit firmly.
The practical part
More · your pilot
Tandem paragliding in Mürren with Airtime comes with a licensed tandem pilot and insurance, both included in the listing. In Switzerland, the SHV issues the official pilot licenses on behalf of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation, and flying paying passengers requires the Biplace 3 license.
Airtime's instructors speak English, German, Spanish and French, and each group is limited to 6 people. Airtime says it began in Lauterbrunnen in 2012, as a small team of pilots who fly this valley.
Jungfrau Region Tourism's listing for the operator describes the pilot as a certified tandem pilot in Switzerland. Ask your pilot anything at the briefing, from how the wing works to the names of the peaks across the valley.

More · after landing
Transport after landing is not part of the booking. The listing points to a bus back to Lauterbrunnen or the walk along the waterfalls, and Lauterbrunnen Tourism describes that walk as easy, fairly flat and suitable for pushchairs.
On the way you pass the Trümmelbach Falls. The Schilthornbahn describes 10 glacier waterfalls inside the mountain, draining the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau at up to 20,000 litres of water per second. They are open from the beginning of April to the beginning of November.
If your day continues up the mountain, the cable car from Stechelberg returns you to Mürren in about 4 minutes, and from there the Schilthornbahn continues to Birg and to the Schilthorn summit at 2,970 m.

More · honest caveats
The flight suits almost anyone who can walk uphill for a few minutes and run a few steps. Airtime describes the fitness level as moderate: an uphill walk of 10 minutes to the take-off field, then a few running steps. No previous experience is needed.
It is not for everyone. The listing marks it as not suitable for children under 5, pregnant women, people with mobility impairments or people over 91 kg. Airtime itself says it can often take guests up to 95 kg, and up to 100 kg in the right summer conditions. Heavier passengers can look at the panorama flight from Birg, which accepts up to 115 kg at set times.
Remember the logistics too. The trip up to the meeting point in Mürren is not included, though it is free with the SwissPass and discounted with other travel passes. Without a pass, the Schilthornbahn charges adults CHF 11.80 one way from Stechelberg to Mürren.
